Safety First
Please note that most backcountry excursions are for experts and require specialized safety knowledge and gear. Telluride Avalanche School, run by San Juan Outdoor Adventures, offers several avalanche education opportunities throughout the winter season. Their courses are designed to follow the American Avalanche Association (AAA) guidelines and the curriculum set out by the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE). All participants receive a Certificate of Completion for these courses.
