Waterfall Canyon
Scenic Ophir Hike Without a Waterfall
From the parking area (info below), follow the trail towards the creek and look for the pedestrian bridge that crosses over Howard Fork. Once over the bridge, follow up the old, un-maintained mining road. The road will eventually turn to singletrack and veer to the right across the valley floor. There is often a mandatory water crossing to complete the loop and descend the west side of the valley. Be conscious to stay on the trail and not cross into private property. There is no waterfall on this trail, but it is filled with wildflower meadows during the summertime.
Directions:
Turn off HWY 145 onto Ophir Road and continue for two miles. When you reach the town, bear right on Granite Ave. Drive just under a half mile, passing a line of houses and crossing a broad avalanche path, until you encounter a dirt pullout on your right. Here, you'll find three designated parking spots for day use only. If the spaces are full, you can park on the side of the road, but be mindful not to park on private property.
