5 Free Things to Do in Telluride!
1. Gondola Rides
The first public transportation of its kind in North America! The Gondola takes travelers between Telluride and Mountain Village and runs 275 days a year from 7 AM until midnight and is completely free. The Gondola is even partially powered by sustainable energy. The ride takes 13 minutes, and offers incredible vistas of the Telluride box canyon and surrounding 13,000 foot peaks. For a fun winter adventure up the mountain, bring your camera and some hot chocolate and enjoy the gorgeous scenery at sunset!
2. Wilkinson Public Library
Telluride's award-winning library allows you to check out books, magazines, DVD's, and CD's as well as use free internet. The Telluride Room on the upper level is a cozy area to read, catch up on work, and enjoy the views of town and the mountains while learning about local history. The library also hosts free events almost every day and evening - from talks on local environmental issues to free yoga and latin dance classes. Check out the events calendar (adult / youth) for more information!
3. Free Box
A "Telluride Tradition" located right off Main Street, the name says it all. The Free Box is a place to exchange clothes, small trinkets, books, and assorted treasures. Before you leave Telluride, leave things you don't need in the Free Box instead of throwing them away. Be sure to swing by the Free Box and see what you can find!
4. Sledding
The Town Park in Telluride or by Chair #7 are great places to sled after the slopes close! A fun activity for the entire family, especially for little ones too young to ski.
5. River Trail
Located in the town of Telluride, the River Trail is a popular path for both locals and tourists trying to take the scenic route. Stretching along the San Miguel River, this is a beautiful trail that connects the East and West ends of town. Instead of slip-sliding on the sidewalks, head toward the mountain where you'll find the marked and maintained River Trail easily accessible. Dogs are welcome too!
