Ridgway

Know as the "Gateway to the San Juan Mountains", Ridgway is a small community along the San Juan Skyway about 38 miles northwest of Telluride. This gateway community was recognized over 100 years ago when the Rio Grande Southern established Ridgway as a railhead center servicing the nearby mining towns of Ouray and Telluride. The town was named for railroad superintendent Robert M. Ridgway who established the town in 1891.

Located near hot springs, a variety of small shops and a reservoir for summer boating, fishing and camping, Ridgway is a perfect day trip from Telluride.
